Abu Dhabi day 2

A late start today followed by eggs benedict and coffee at Jones the Grocer. Yes, I know, it's a weird Welsh name for am Australian restaurant in Abu Dhabi, but the food was good. Julian then braved the roads again and gave us a tour of yet more stunning termite mounds. Emirati drivers are dire and suicidal. One of their more inexplicable manoeuvres is to work their way into the outside fast lane, a mere 100 metres before their exit, then swoop back across all lanes without signalling onto the exit ramp. Why do they do it? Because they can.

After brunch we shopped for material (sigh, losing will to live), then visited a tailor to arrange for two salwar kameez to be made for Fo (she’s got one, loves them and wants more – why? Because she can.). Julian will bring them back to Oz when he returns in October.

Shopping for material

Then, more shopping malls and souks. Did I mention that Emiraties and Fo and Julian love to shop? For dinner we visited an Egyptian restaurant and had ruz, a savoury rice dish, similar to risotto - good flavour but overcooked seafood! The restaurant was adorned with household items for sale. I've just realised that Emiraties love to shop. On returning to the apartment we had a fashion tour of Julian's wardrobe before crashing.

Julian and some of his bling.
